How To Make Your Event Coverage Worth It

Let’s be honest. Humans are very selfish beings. They want everything.

There is nothing wrong with that. I am no different.

You need to keep this in mind when creating videos around your events and programming. Nonprofits will often put together a series of videos talking about how good their organization is, and why people should donate today.

That’s a starting point, sure, but if you modify your strategy a tiny bit, you can see historic results. That’s by telling stories.

Fundraising campaigns incorporating video storytelling receive significantly more funding than those without video content. Storytelling can also increase the perceived value of products by up to 2,706 percent!

That seems promising to me. 🙂 Let’s look how to easily and quickly tell stories.

Elements of a Good Story

1. An interesting person

Find someone who is a “talker,” or comfortable talking. They should be one who often talks about their experiences as they pertain to your nonprofit. They could be anyone — a beneficiary, donor, volunteer or staff member.

2. Find the problem you solve

Your nonprofit should be solving one (or more) of their problems. Ask them to talk about that.

3. Go for the heart

This might make you uncomfortable, and you might feel like you are invading their privacy. But your stories should have some sort of emotion. Maybe the person is extremely grateful and happy because of your nonprofit. Or maybe your nonprofit helped this person in a rough situation.

Obviously, you want be respect of the person sharing the story. You don’t want to force personal details out of them. Your video can be so much more powerful if your video contains a touch of human emotion.

4. Call to Action (CTA)

People should feel personally connected to your nonprofit after watching your video, and they should feel compelled to get involved.

So add a call to action (CTA). It could be as simple as, “Click this link / scan this QR code to donate today.” Without a CTA, your video will fall short financially.

This may sound all good. But it might still seem complicated, especially if you are new to storytelling on a budget. I get it.

Marketing Video Details

1. Video Length

It really depends on what you need. Our clients like 2- to 4-minute videos, and they work well.

If you embed the video on your social media, make sure you know how long the video can be for that platform.

2. Video Order:

Hook: Grab the viewers’ attention. Make them think, feel or get wrapped up in your content right away.

Heart: Present the person’s challenge

Solution: Talk about how your nonprofit solved their problem

Ending: Add a CTA

3. Title / Headline

The video title or headline is always a fun one, and it requires A/B testing.

This article should give you a few ideas. At the end of the day, you want a headline that gets people’s attention and aligns with your SEO goals.

4. Your distribution plan

  • Social Media: Share on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Use short captions with emotional hooks.
  • Email Campaigns: Embed the video or include a clickable thumbnail in your newsletters or email outreach offers.
  • Website Homepage: Put the video on your homepage. It will draw people in, and you’ll make your page much, much more interesting.
  • Landing Pages: Embed the video on relevant landing pages. This will increase conversion rates.

There you go. This will make your videos more interesting and profitable.

Again, our Video Marketing Special is here for yours to take. We can’t give it to everyone, so grab it today.
