As a kid with a disability, I didn’t know what my future held.
I had broken dozens of bones, and society seemed to indicate that I was better off at home under the supervision of mom and dad. That was not the future I envisioned, but I didn’t know what else to do.
When I came across the wheelchair racers at the University of Illinois, my life changed significantly. I realized that I could, in fact, do anything, and my disability was not going to serve as the figurative ball and chain in my life.
As I continue to learn, I’m realizing just how capable the disability community is.
Team Trust has had the honor of working with Omnium Circus for the past couple of months, and it’s opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. Omnium is an accessible and inclusive circus, and they have individuals with and without disabilities performing together.
For example, they have a man doing handstands in his wheelchair and a woman without legs doing an aerial act!
As impressive as this is, I wanted to make sure their digital media presence resonates with Omnium’s audience. I also want to make sure that kids with disabilities realize that they, too, could be a performer like this in the future.
So Omnium unveiled its “Stars of Omnium” campaign across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn. They are highlighting each performer, and we’re catching a glimpse of their lives off stage. It’s already expanding their engagement and brand awareness and bringing in donations.
And perhaps most meaningfully to me, we’re establishing a truly special relationship.
